I lost a good deal of weight right after the surgery. It's easy to do when everything is liquid.
Then, after 2-3 months, it all came back.
However, over the longer term, my sleep architecture and metabolism seem to have normalized, and I have again lost weight. I am around 15 pounds lighter than 13 months ago (just before MMA surgery). And I didn't need to do anything special or heroic.
One thing I got into the habit of more was eating small amounts more often. It has now become habitual. As it turns out, many doctors/nutritionists are recommending this - eat the same total amount of food per day, but more often (say 5x a day) and your metabolism goes into cruise control.
***IMPORTANT***
During surgery recuperation, do NOT use the liquid diet as a faux weight loss opportunity. As seattlebill often posts, it takes 1000+ calories a day EXTRA to rebuild bone and tissue. By lowering your caloric intake (especially in the first 6 weeks) you will slow down your recovery and potentially retard bone growth, nerve regeneration etc.
If the MMA reduces your OSA, you will probably find it MUCH easier to lose some weight as your energy and metabolism will work with you rather than against you.
