Hello Tom,

I don't know of any medications that help sleep apnea when it is obstructive. Is there a reason why the CPAP is not working? Maybe you need to be retitrated, maybe your mask leaks, etc. I can understand your frustration because I have not had much success with CPAP either. I HAVE found that Ultra Mirgage Full Face mask has the best seal for face masks.

I am having MMA/GA with Dr. K.L. at Stanford in July. After multiple calls to United Healthcare, my PPO has agreed to pay for the out-of-network doctor as an in-network provider. What kind of insurance do you have? If you have a PPO, you should have some leeway with appeals. It might be more difficult if you have an HMO.

How do you know the insurance will not help? Have you submitted a pre-certification? Have you had a consult with Dr. K.L. in person? He will want to scope your throat and possibly take xrays to determine the best treatment. If you have to get a loan or use a credit card for the initial consult, it is well worth it.

Also, some doctors will work with you regarding the fees. I'm not sure to what extend, but you will have to ask. Even though my insurance is going to pay Dr. K.L. as if he were an in-networks provider, he still requires that I put down 12,000 as a down payment for surgery.
