Check with your pharmacist to see if your medications can be crushed or the capsule opened and put in some food. Some medications are time-released and have to be taken whole. After my UPPP and Genio I crushed them with the end of a knife in a mug until they were powder. Put the powder or capsule insides on top of some vanilla pudding, swirled it a little and ate it. (applesauce works too). It may taste a little odd at first but worked great for me.
If you read my posts around May 9 in Non-CPAP Forum 1, you'll get an idea of the amount of pain and time frame I went through. The key is good communication with your surgeon on the type of pain medication you will need and if you can rely on him/her to give you something stronger if need be. If you read or search in Forum 1 under medication I'm sure you'll find many of us relaying info on medications after surgery. Sometimes ice packs were really the most helpful the first week.
