Difficult Question...

Posted by sickntired on December 08, 2006 at 18:56:03:

Can someone answer this for me?

What is the difference between a corticotomy and an osteotomy?

After having my MMA/GA, a maxillofacial surgeon here in Phoenix and the orthodontist that works with him are both recommending that my upper jaw be widened. Dr. KL was actually one of this surgeon's interns at Harvard.

I'm now being told two things:

1. - Ortho/Maxillofacial surgeon: My lower teeth are tilted in a need to be orthodontically widened (about 5-6 mm) and then the maxillary expansion will happen.

2. -- Dr. KL: You can only expand the lower about 3mm. For that it would not be worth it.

At this point I'm really confused and don't know what to do anymore. Especially after all my surgeries, I just want one that does the trick....and not have to go back for something else.
