Well...
An osteotomy is a removal of bone, including the blood and nutrient rich "core". A corticotomy...most often seen in distraction osteogenesis of long limb bones...is a distruption of the outer bone "shell" leaving the core intact and allowing it to supply blood and nutrients as the bone is distracted or pulled apart to grow.
I don't know how to reconcile differing opinions other than get another set of opinions from a defined expert. (perhaps from Dr. P & R at Stanford, or Mikes surgeon in Boston).
Regardless of who says it, I am always suspicious of one-upsmanship on anything. That teacher-student remark implies superiority (which may or may not be valid). I'd prefer to hear...oh yeah...I remember him from "..." , nice guy, or good doctor,or real jerk, etc... But not, yes...I taught him, etc... That, for good or bad, is a sales pitch.
