I concur with what everyone said so far!

True, imaging is not that accurate...I fully agree. However, it is done more for reassurance than marketing...Furthermore , anyone who says you'll look like an ape is woefully ignorant of the nuances of the MMA and has not worked with very many patients who've had them! And...citing such information or comments to a patient severely casts doubts on their surgical insight and medical credibility!

Yes...there can be some changes in appearance. Many notice alterations of their nasal structure (flaring of the nostrils) to various degrees. It is all a trade-off between airway result and what you might expect and accept for changes in your appearance.
I've had an MMA/GA , and have had very little cosmetic impact on my face except for a slightly more prominent chin...and sustained weight loss ( a good thing) from the elimintion of my OSA ! Take a look at Cupertinojoe's blog! He is a young single man concerned about facial asthetics...he is happy with his results all around!

You should see someone at a major sleep surgery center, capable of more complex operations and evaluations. You may require a GA (tongue base advancement) to go with your jaw advancement. There are also techniques and nuances that can minimize asthetic changes while optimizing your airway.

Good luck,

Bill
