Warning cosmetic risks with MMA

Posted by cpapdoesnothelp on December 15, 2006 at 23:17:14:

One of the best MMA surgeons at Stanford (and I was told he was the best) said some of his paitents complain about the appearance of the upper jaw (my upper lip is pretty full now but no one complains about the lower jaw. another maxillofacial surgeon who is Chairman and a professor of a major maxillofacial school said he agrees with that. I do not mind my lower jaw being moved that much it is the upper jaw. one doctor who seem to be honest sent me a before and after picture and i do look like I am in the movie panet of the apes. But he said the picture is just an estimate.

I was told by doctors to check out MMA surgery for sleep apnea. I saw a number of them. My upper and lower jaws now look excellent an some doctors say they do not want to change me features. and that MMA has an ape look unless your jaws are way back. One Doctor said the before and after pictures some doctors take are for marketing only and not accurate. A doctor told me the soft tissue moves about 1/2 more than the distance as the jaws move. I also had lower jaw surgery advancement over 20 years ago which would make my surgery more complicated. Some doctors have told me there is no way we will be able to tell how you will look. But a lot of doctors say nothing about it. Has anyone hear of this experienced it or know someone that turn out looking real bad. A doctor said it is the ape look and the other said it is the horse look, and it seem common if your jaws look good now. The pictures from the internet the people look good but there jaws seemed more back and i think there might be a tendency to just show the good result,,the bad results the people may be to depressed and just do not want to show. Maybe like people telling there successes like in the stock market but not there losses, And the doctors maybe just showing there best results.

the first dr who saw me said if my jaw were back he would do but did in want to change my apearance.

does Anyone know a surgeon etc any one who can do someing to avoid this risk.
