What to expect from sleep study?

What "readings" or results should I expect to see from a sleep study? In other words, what do they measure? IE...length and number of sleep stages, length of apena episodes, strenght of episode etc. I've had two studies and the dr's have never discussed any of the results with me. I want to be able to ask logical thought provoking questions? And what is normal? Is even one apnea episode normal? If I breathe in through my nose and out my mouth, will they identify this.
