Good answers from Mike, Bill and others as usual.

There is a question whether long term CPAP usage might alter lung function and upper airway structure. We don't really know yet. I'm not aware of any studies showing it.

I'm also suspicious that constant physical pressure from headgear and mask 8 hours a day for decades might alter tooth positioning and possibly even result slight or even significant changes in bone.

A very high pressure might also make subtle neurological changes to the centers responsible for breathing rhythm.

These are all long shots. I strongly suggest completely ignoring them and let CPAP do its thing because untreated apnea can and does kill people - dead. I'm not aware of anyone dying from a dried out nose or any other treatment for apnea.

Maybe we can get a CPAP manufacturer to fund a study :)
