Posted by ChristopherJ on January 02, 2007 at 23:27:05:Hello All,
I'm new here and have been reading quite a bit of the previous posts, & looking to fill the gaps on any of the questions I may have for my Dr prior to my upcoming surgery. My info:
-Surgery scheduled for 1/10/07, next week, with Dr. J.H. from Stanford. Will meet up on 1/09 for pre-op.
-Meeting up with Dr. K.L. at Stanford on 1/08/07 for 2nd opinion before planned surgery(would liked to have my 2nd opinion a lot sooner but couldn't happen).
-Diagnosed last year at Stanford's Sleep Clinic, but unable to plan surgery due to motor vehicle accident and recouping from onslaught of corrective surgeries from accident.
-Planned APNEA Surgery includes:
---UPPP flap to soft palate
---Tonsillectomy (quiet large)
---Radiofrequency to base of tongue,
(Genioglossus Advancement not yet recommended because of strongly pronounced chin and jaw.)
So questions are:
-I assume Dr. J.H. is a trustworthy and good Dr. because of his affiliation with Drs. N.P. & R.R. of Stanford. We've met twice and he seems on the up and up with me. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated?-I have read a lot of posts that make me question the value of the UPPP flap surgery, if these guys are leaders in the field, why do they still do it?
-I'm willing to pull the plug on surgery on the 10th if Dr. K.L. gives me conflicting opinions from Dr. J.H.'s Has anyone else ever met with the two or have a specific preference to either Dr?
-I want to get this surgery (and all others) out of the way and over with as soon as possible, but am having second thoughts after reading some of the horror stories some have had to deal with(as far as corrective surgeries for botched surgeries or just major regrets). Any thoughts/advice?
-I use my voice for a living (advertisement work and voice over for TV & radio) and was told I don't have to worry about any changes except speaking throaty dialects like Hebrew and some French, so I can accept the trade off. Has anyone else had noticeable changes from the same type of surgeries?
Any random advice would also be greatly appreciated! If you've read this far, many thanks!Happy New Year!
Chris
