Week 7 Summary, Post MMA

Here's an example of where "no news is good news." Progress is still being made, but the changes are more subtle. It was helpful to hear from others about having to relearn some speech articulation. The most obvious lingering legacies from the MMA at seven weeks are the newly placed uvula and the lisp, neither of which feels too taxing in the wonder of all my new found sleep. Good solid, stuff! It's amazing. I still go 10-11 hours a night. I am now able to do a full and decent job with the dental floss and tooth brush. I sucked on a cashew for an extended period of time but didn't feel ready to chew. The only reason I haven't made any nut butters is because I know my capacity for consuming those with jam using only a spoon. Gums and teeth are still numb but there are many more touch points of which I am aware. I've lost about ten pounds, so I should be able to fit into my wedding gown.

Today at exactly seven weeks, post MMA, I noticed out of the blue that I felt great. This kind of awareness hits hard, as I realize that I'm feeling so much better than even a few weeks ago. I must have really gone to a place of living with being sick, pre MMA, as if there were no alternative to feeling rotten. I hope I never take for granted my new state of being.

I am so thankful to have found this board. Were it not for all of you I have no idea of when I might have learned about MMA as an option for sleep apnea. Moreover, this surgery was described by all of you either through messages or on the blogspots in a candid, objective, and forthright fashion--minus rose colored glasses or hysteria. I went into the surgery with eyes wide open, and now I sleep well with eyes "shut tight."
