Nosireeee, Captin, I did not have even a hint of a lisp before the MMA. Although I am a psychotherapist now (and the "speech difference" is obvious enough for clients to comment), I was once a high school reading specialist and worked with many speech challenged students. I'm being objective when I say that I have a slight lisp. I am also conscious of having to work at minimizing a garbled quality with my speech. It's as if I can't quite find my way around in there.
My hope is that this issue is transient and will resolve itself as more sensation returns. As the swelling has gone down inside my mouth, I now can feel that my soft palate is advanced just as everything else was. Dr. KL got his 12mm on the bottom for sure. Pre MMA my tongue only felt hard palate, and now I am definitely aware of how much soft palate I can feel. If I speak for a prolonged period, I almost gag myself with tissue back there. I really have to stop, take a breath, and swallow that uvula and whatever else is there. When I am silent, I'm only moderately aware of the uvula.
It seems to me that I read a couple of past posts on post MMA articulation anecdotes. Unfortunately, I was doing all this reading just before and immediately following the surgery and have no clue as to which forum I found them. I'll try to look and see if I can come up with these references.
I have not hit a panic button yet because, I assume, that this too shall pass. Thanks so much for checking in.
