lower jaw surgery for sleep apnea?

Posted by seriouslymer on August 03, 2007 at 08:16:08:

Hi! I was wondering if anyone here had just the lower jaw surgery to treat sleep apnea. I see many people who have MMA and both jaws are moved forward. However, My OS is just recommending the lower along with genio. My upper jaw protrudes quite a bit (I have an overbite) and my CT xray only showed a narrow airpassage where the tongue and soft palate meet...my nasal air passage is fine. So, my OS (who is also an MD and does cosmetic surgery) did not think the upper jaw surgery was needed in my case.

Just checking to see if anyone else has this similar scenario or has any expertise in this area to share with me. I am currently a few months into orthodontics and awaiting a surgery date (looking to be in about 6 months).

Thanks!
