Posted by learian on August 08, 2007 at 18:27:38:This has been a quiet week but one that's filled with minor discoveries. I noticed that two of my porcelain crowns in the back are little nicked, no doubt from the arch bars. If this buttinski of a uvula does not settle down, I want Dr. KL to do something to make it behave. When I really get into a modest oratory, that thing actually has the capacity to gag me in mid-sentence. All I have to do is shut up and swallow, and everything is right again. I've also started to make some involuntary and random noises in my throat. My husband had thought that I was grinding my teeth but then realized what it was when one of those noises--a little like a throat singer except I can't reproduce them volitionally--made itself heard doing the day. I'm starting to wonder if I carry a certain tension in my throat as I get used to there being more soft palate. I have no trouble breathing or swallowing. Sleeping continues to be wonderful. The truth is I have no major complaints.
I have noticed that many of you know how many mm's your mouth can open. Are you measuring yourself with a micrometer? Is the doctor checking on this progress from time to time? My surgeon has taken a relaxed approach, and the subject hasn't even come up. I won't see him again until almost week 12, post MMA.
I have not taken any courageous steps with new foods, or rather I should say, larger pieces of foods. As sensation returns more and more, there is a hint of feeling in my teeth that feels like a vibration and some minor sore spots on face around my upper lip and nose. There is still enough numbness that I can't feel my entire bite, and my hard palate is not completely back. Lower gum feeling is a little ahead of upper.
At the risk of being any more self-referencing that I've been with any of these summaries, I am including a link which discusses how I am with the aesthetics of this procedure currently As you will read, they are part of a discussion that a few of us were having on the cosmetics. I believe that talking about this aspect of MMAs will help to demystify the process and alleviate some anxiety. The following comments really do summarize where I am about my face. As always, thank you for your unflagging support.
