On mouth opening - I did a regime starting (I think) after week six when I got my splint off (like arch bars, but for braces). Yes, I actually measured with a ruler every day! My surgeon was of the opinion that past four months, it became significantly more difficult to regain incisal opening. So I was determined to do my excercises - first with a squash ball, and then with a racquet ball (ouch!).

I was still taking baby steps as far as chewing by 8 weeks.

A bizarre nerve-regeneration thing that happened to me was that whenever I would eat/drink somethng cold, as soon as it touched my lower lip, I would also feel cold on my chin. This happened for at least the first three months, and then gradually dissipated. So cold foods would often make me feel like I was dribbling food onto my chin.
