Posted by seriouslymer on August 10, 2007 at 08:28:02:I wanted to thank everyone's opinions and suggestions regarding whether or not to have just the lower jaw surgery performed for my sleep apnea. Thought I would update everyone on my two consultations I just had (one with my current OS and one with a new one). They had the same conclusions:
Aparently my sleep apnea is not so severe that both jaws need to be moved. (My main problem is heavy snoring). Plus, my upper is actually a few mm too far forward already so moving it even more would make my face disproportional (which I was afraid of). This is actually good news for me to hear...as many of you know, I was just as concerned about the cosmetic side of this as stopping my snoring. I know that's pretty vain but it's true.I was looking at many of your blogs and stories. My apnea is only mild but my snoring is extremely heavy...as is my sleepiness. My airpassage yet narrow, did not seem to be as narrow as many of yours.
There is still no guarantee that the lower jaw advancement will work. I am going to combine the septoplasty and the genio to increase my chances. And cross my fingers and toes!
Thank you all again for your suggesions, input, blogs and photos. Good luck in your journeys!
