I am almost 8 weeks postop. I have some friends who see me weekly and always comment that the swelling is still going down. My face is continuing to change as the muscles/ligaments/bones settle into their new positions and I work to rehab my jaw. I am still getting used to the new face - but we are becoming friends. I really had trouble looking at my face in the mirror initially - it was a regular practice to look only at my mouth in the mirror during mouth care. I guess what I am trying to say is hang in there - it is going to get a whole lot better. The first week is THE WORST but improvements/changes will start to pick up speed now.

If you haven't done so, please print out Seattlebill's recovery timeline at the heading of this forum. Post it on your refrigerator or by your bed so that you can read it often. When you start to feel discouraged I bet if you check your progress against the timeline you will be right on schedule.

Give your wife a hug everyday! She deserves it and it will do you a world of good. Why don't you plan on a date to a good italian restaurant at 6 weeks postop. You will be able to manage the pasta and I bet a night out will be good for both of you. Something to look forward to.

Hang in there, Nuf. You are 5 days on the other side. Rejoice!
