Sorry to hear of the ongoing pain. It sounds like the hospital stay was particularly brutal as well.

I think most people do NOT have significant ongoing pain. There is usually so much numbness that pain tends to be a dull ache rather than anything sharp and intense.

There are ways to bolster yourself upright with a wall of pillows so that you don't slip down. Some medical supply places might have a selection of specialized pillows.

The adjustment of your braces should not be done right now until your jaw heals enough to rebuild some bone. Once that happens, your braces adjstments won't hurt much.

Your case is unusual with the amount of severe pain. I'd ask your surgeon why you have SO much pain when most people have dull aching at this stage.
