The Mayo Clinic has a hundred plus year history of having a cluster of fantastic specialists. That being said, not every specialist performs every procedure available with regularity.

Many ENT surgeons either do "bread and butter" cases or perform complex head and neck surgeries for cancer. Even the most accomplished ENT surgeons may not routinely perform an MMA as part of their case repetoire. Therein lies the rub...

I believe the Mayo Clinic has an amazing cancer, cardiology-cardiac surgery ,and geriatric reputation. It may or may not have that capability with OSA surgery.

We all need a surgeon who routinely performs an MMA for sleep apnea. Or, at least routinely performs it for any and all other causes. By "routine" I mean several times a month...not 5 times a year.

Even if it is more convenient location-wise, finding a surgeon who doesn't perform complex cases in sufficient volume may impact your outcome. And undergoing a complex procedure with a such a long recovery phase means that if the outcome isn't great, you will not have gained anything.

On the other hand, if anyplace might have the capability of performing the MMA, the much-storied Mayo Clinic may be the place.

Good luck,

Bill
