mma post op DAY 24

Posted by sleepdeprived on January 07, 2008 at 15:07:55:

I just wanted to update everyone from my last post of feeling awful and depressed..that day i actually got admitted in the hospital for 6 days due to a right maxillary sinus infection. All around my right eye was so swollen i couldn't see out of it. They put a drain in my gum to drain out the puss from my sinus's. Spending christmas in the hospital was not fun, but the IV antibiotics eventually cleared it up.

I notice on this forum that a lot of ppl have there mouth's wired shut? I didn't have any of this. My arch bars were removed right after surgery. I went for a check up a few days ago and was told that it was crucial i be on a blenderized diet...what the surgeon doesnt know is that I have been eating mashed potatoes and oatmeal (not blenderized) since day 7 due miscommunication about my diet to my family and myself. Now im afraid my screws or plates are crooked from me eating this soft food so early.

I have two very important questions.
Number 1 - The first day I got out of the hospital after fighting the infection I felt awake for the first time ever. The next day, it went right back to sleeping all day long. I'm scared that this surgery didn't cure me.. but as i'm seeing people say to wait till the swellinng goes down..why would the swelling in my jaw affect my airway? and is all of a sudden one day im going to wake up and be refreshed?

Number 2 - due to the major fatigue... i whipped out good ol cpap that never worked for me to begin with. (My old pressure was 16). I'm startin on pressure 7 to see if it will work. I'm desperate.. I'm 21 and already took this semester off school to have this done and i HAVE to go back this semester. Is the cpap a bad idea to use , is it damaging this early in post op?
any input is appriciated, a nd hope you all had a happy new year :)
