I'm glad to answer your questions. I was lurking on this site for quite sometime before having surgery.

My experience seems to be right in line with most others on this board..

I think he did a great job with my mma. I've had zero pain besides a tight left jaw muscle and the pins and needles sensation in the lower lip and nerves waking up all over. I've already got some feeling back in probably 95% of the affected area. Teeth are sensitive. But i have braces.

They made incisions for my lower jaw. One left a small scar- which i don't care about. I was banded shut for a day then they pulled those out and put two verticals on my braces. I had a little mobility in my jaw from the second day. I'm probably at 85% jaw opening. You will be suprised how strong your jaw muscles are when you start stretching them..

Yes- 2 surgeons. I met the other one in the waiting room before surgery.

I feel great at 8 weeks. Still somewhat difficult to eat and my speech varies with how my lips hurt because of the teeth pushing on my lips more than before. My braces barely pushed on my lips before the surgery.

10mm is a long way in your mouth:-) I'm very please with my appearance after the surgery. I look different but I believe in a good way.

We discussed the GA but Dr. V thought that we should start with just the MMA and do the GA later if needed.

My consultation included xrays and digital photos. Wasn't cheap btw. The final bill from the surgery was up there also.

My first meeting with Dr. V was around 1yr ago so i don't remember specific info on how many he does for OSA a year. It was alot more than the local surgeons i talked with but nothing like how many they do in Cali.

I really didn't even consider going to Cali. But if you have the time and means to go i'd say check it out.

I'd agree with finding someone who is a specialist. And I would agree that going to cali will get you some of the most experienced surgeons in the world for this. I've seen some pretty big airways come out of there..

i'll reply some more when i have some time.
