While sleeping in the recliner, I bet your arms are resting on the armrests of the chair, right? I would guess that the numbness is coming from unlar nerve compression at the elbow from resting your arms in an unmoving position for too long. Is the numbness in your 4th and 5th fingers, that side of your hand? Propping your arms on pillows should make a big difference.
