Yup- the wait was for the braces. My teeth were still not close to perfect before surgery.. I probably have 6mos or so left in braces. Dr. V basically put my jaws in the same postion plus a few mm on the bottom . My bite feels exactly the same as before. We really didn't discuss my bite too much since i had braces on.

The MMA is the only surgery i've had for osa.

It's hard to say if it's totally gone without a sleep study. My wife has spent plenty of hours listening to me breath since the surgery and she hasn't heard me apnea/snore once. Before I would apnea constantly. So hopefully it's gone.

As far as the GA issue we discussed earlier. If my apnea is not cured and i have to go in for another surgery i'll be pretty upset. Pre surgery another surgery didn't seem like a big deal, but now sitting on the post side of things it seems like potentially a much bigger deal if my apnea isn't cured. My chin appearance is still on the 'weak' side.

Post surgery recovery was much much easier than i thought it would be. The first 2 weeks sucked as far as energy. The number 1 issue for me was swelling. I haven't seen anyones post surgery photos that looked as swollen as mine did. I was looking at my post photos and was shocked at how swollen i was.

Doing the liquid diet was easy. I just used syringes and went at it. If you are wired that would suck though i imagine.

Good luck in deciding if the surgery is for you and where you have it done at.
