The best response to this question is what I found when trying to resolve insurance coverage for the MMA. I talked with well over 20 surgeons that, at the time, accepted my insurance. Most had performed jaw advancement for need based on deformity, trauma, elective (plastic surgery). At that time no one had performed one as it relates to the medical management of the underlying cause of obstructive apnea. One said he hadn't done one for OSA but could probably figure it out. Off the list immediately. However, a couple of very honest responses were " have done many but not for sleep apnea" Then they said after assisting several they would most likely be able or they said they would need the training for any special or unique circunstances as they relate to OSA. In other words just cause I can doesn't mean I am ready for your unique situation. I found one who trained at Stanford and even consulted with Dr P and Dr R about my particular case. Best choice I ever made.
