Posted by Senn on February 04, 2008 at 13:44:25:Finally the sore throat sensation is gone and I'm off the pain meds. Took longer than I imagined. But luckily the level of pain/soreness I had was nothing like the UPPP (which was pretty awful) ;-)
As for sleep quality, not seeing much difference between the initial benefits and today. The effects of a partial epiglottidectomy were very immediate and straightforward. Like an on-off switch. When my epiglottis was excised (shortened) by 35%, it pretty much took away the main "trigger" (i.e. elongated epiglottis) that used to trigger most of the lateral airway collapse. I guess any newer improvements are going to be more subtle and/or take more time. As mentioned in my previous post (day #6), doc believes it does take a month for the swelling in the throat to go all the way down and to experience the full benefits. Also the shortened epiglottis is supposed to become more sturdy and less prone to flop around over the larynx. I guess years of sleep debt is also pretty hard to catch up to. I haven't used the autopap since the surgery. Might try it tonight, just to see what happens. Will be seeing the doc in 3 weeks.
