Here is my situation.
Mine is RDI of 19 and a oxygen saturation of 85% which is mild. I have been using CPAP for 4 years and have had enough. The doc I am having it done by thinks that I am a good canidate for this and it should be the only procedure that will be needed. I am not grossly over weight, but I could lose about 20 to 30 lbs. I am 6'3 and 230lbs. I have large tonsils and a uvula that touches my tongue. He did not find any other nasal or tongue obstructions, so a MMA is not viable for me at this time. The first week was pretty rough with pain and was worst on days 3 and 6. The pain medication mostly took care of it, but found that the dosage I was given wore off after about 2 hours making eating difficult, so I stayed mostly liquid on my diet or asleep. I had spaghetti noodles on day 7 and they went down ok. The thing I wasn't expecting was how much energy the surgery took out of me. I tried to go back to work after the first week, but my body said NO! So I went back home and napped and stayed out an extra week which was a Great idea. I have to thank my wife for talking sense into me. She said if I can't stay awake all day at home, why do I think I can at work.
Since the surgery I have lost 15 lbs due to dieting before the surgery and lack of food in the past 2 weeks. I plan on continuing to loose a bit more. The pain is pretty much gone except occasional discomfort. I am eating normal foods.
I have not used my CPAP since the surgery. I don't exactly feel tired, but as of last night I still have not gotten a full nights sleep. I wake up once or twice during the night. I think it is due to residual pain and discomfort because when I wake up I notice the twinge in my throat. I think it will probably be another week until I don't feel it still being tender and hopefully my sleep will regulate then. Still have a bit of swelling and redness. My energy level seems to be coming back to normal even without the CPAP so I am hopeful.
I'll keep everyone notified if I have a positive or negative experience with the procedure. Right now I am guardedly hopeful.
