Braces - yes, had them before, during and after. My orthodontist and surgeon coordinated closely. If you need differential advancement to get the best airway, then your teeth will need correction to line up again. Im surprised that more MMA patients don't get braces, actually. Braces are OK. Downside - all those metal brackets hanging off your teeth for years. Upside - the best bite you've had in your life, for the rest of your life.
Tongue on the large side - Check. That is a common trait among MMA patients. The other biggie is receding and/or narrow jaw.
Numbness - yes, that is a risk. But you probably have to weigh it aganst the effects of your apnea. For myself and many of us who chose MMA, it was well worth reducing drastically or eliminating apnea. It just affects so many parts of one's life. My numbness - well, most of the time I live life completely unaware of numbness. I have so many other things I focus on.
You may need to relearn eating and chewing a little bit mainly becuase your jaw muscles and the jaw hinging action is offset from where it has been a all your life. So - yes- there is some readjustment. But we humans are pretty adaptable psychlogically.
