Hey Buggy!
Glad to hear things are going well. I haven't consulted with any other surgeons. I know I should probably do that, but I haven't yet. He hasn't put a number on me yet for advancement, but I imagine that we'll get to that at the next appointment. He does not recommend the GA and it seems to me that he's not a big fan of that procedure. He said he has had to fix more bad GA's than he's recommended...or something along those lines.
The thing I am most concerned with (other than it being a success) is how much permanent nerve damage or numbness there will be and how will that effect speech, etc. As far as I know, I won't need braces, but that could come up in our next meeting. Right now, I have a sleep study scheduled at Mayo so they can make sure nothing has been missed. Then I meet with their sleep doc, then with Dr. V that same day. I do need to find out a lot more before I go ahead, but he seems willing to do whatever he needs to in order to make sure I have all the info I need.
I am only slightly concerned about appearance. I'm more concerned with success and numbness. He told me that he considers an RDI of 20 or less a success, but his goal is 5 or less. When you consider that I have to take sedatives just to get sleep on CPAP, a lot of other options start sounding attractive. I've been using CPAP for almost a year and just can't sleep with the thing. Well, I appreciate any other thoughts you may have for me or any other questions. I will post any new things that come up after my late March appointments. Thanks!
