Well, I really don't think you need to be overly concerned or feel guilty about whether residents will get enough practice and/or whether there's a shortage of patients they'd be able to treat. If anything, I always hear that there's a long long waiting list of patients who willingly volunteer to become "genny pigs" for residents/med school/etc. This is so that they can save alot of money if they go that route. I never felt the need to go that route because I've always felt that my insurance will cover most of the expenses. Not to mention, I wanted the best surgical team to treat my condition. So it's never been a dilemma for me.
