The encouragement was pretty stiff by Dr. RR's partner Dr. JH to get the UPPP first. When I asked about the success rate, the answer I got was not numerical, it was very subjective. "We've seen some good results". When I asked the Dr if I were his older brother, would he recommend the UPPP, the answer was very telling; We all have to make up our own minds on these matters, but this is the way we like to proceed. I honestly thought that it was a money making issue for them (my own subjectivity). I was continually told that MMA could always be done after the UPPP. I received no answer to the question of why I shouldn't just proceed to the MMA. That is where this forum came in to play. It was clear it was not as highly successful as the MMA. The really bad thing was that once I opted out of the UPPP, I was sent to the back of the queue. First I had to see Dr. RR (4 months for that appointment) and then schedule the MMA surgery (another 4 months) Dr. RR was fine with going for the MMA first and never mentioned the UPPP or my previous appoints with the other doctor.
Given my results from the MMA surgery I made the correct choice, but I did feel very intimidated and that the rest of the staff looked down on me for not following their recommended course of actions.
