Have you found any data to back that up? The reason I ask is that a cursory Google investigation indicated the opposite.
I've used chlorhexidine at least five times in my life and never experienced enamel loss - although it does react with plaque (turns it brown).
Chlorhexidine 0.12% is the generic form of Peridex here in the US. It is a pretty effective bacteriacide for short term use (as in post-surgery when one cannot brush or floss).
When I had my braces removed, I also had some enamel chips - but they were due to bacteria getting behind the brackets where I couldn't brush. This was exacerbated by almost 4 1/2 years with the brackets on.
I'll be seeing my dentist (arguably the top dentist in the Pacific NW who has trained hundreds of dentists over the years) soon and will ask what he knows about chlorhexidine and enamel.
