Hi, I have the same set of procedures and high blood pressure. After the third stage of minimal operations my sleep apena was still high (47). I then went and had the hyoid suspension plus further tongue reduction plus attaching a new tendon to the epogastis to stop that flapping.
I have just had my follow up sleep study done - snoring bad average 55 decibels through out the night (wife is not happy) and I was feeling tired all the time. But the results showed my sleep apena index went down to 15, which my surgeon called normal.
However, if I sleep on my back it is up to 40 which is again severe. He told me to use a tennis ball to stop me going on my back. Which I have been doing for the past 2 weeks - still feeling tired and still snoring. He also said that for a new patient coming to him showing the same conditions he would not operate and that I should try the tennis ball or a jaw split. He also said that I should have regular sleep studies (one per year) for the next three years.
The actual operation if they take the tendons / muscle sheath from the leg is ok not much pain, slow returning to sport for the leg - expected 9 months for me. Two major cuts on the throat and a good 25cm scar on the leg. The actual recovery due to the potential to have bleeding was 7 good days in hospital (away from 3 kids under 5 at home).
If the Hyoid Suspension op didn’t work, then I would off gone for an MMA, but after all the operations that I have had, I am glad that I didn’t.
