I agree with everythong stated in this thread !
To summarize:

1) Weightloss, and maintaining as near to ideal body weight as possible is the single best health measure that we can all pursue ! It will improve our quality of life as well as our longevity !! Even if it does nothing for your OSA condition, your health will benefit by judicious weightloss.

2) OSA and being above ideal body weight can be linked, however, they can be independent of each other as well. That being said, weightloss has a variable association with improvement in OSA conditions depending on individualized anatomic traits. It may, or may not help.

3) Gastric Bypass, while becoming more refined and mature as a procedure, is a major undertaking that is not to be regarded lightly. It can revolutionize a person's life, or it can cause major complications. Morbidity and mortality rates for this procedure rival open heart surgery . The risks and complications far outweigh ANY OSA procedure. However, if the outcome is ideal, the benefits can be life changing.

Going laproscopic provides more benefits, however, the procedure is more technically demanding. Further, the major risks are still significant. The minor risks improve with laporoscopy.

Hmmmmm...good discussion. I wonder how many of us are/were more than 15-20 pounds above our ideal body weight ?
