Here comes a revision of my 10 month update, post MMA. Remember how I was saying that the extra wad of throat tissue seem to be thinning and that I thought I might be getting used to it? Forget I said that. As a matter of fact, it now feels as if I have a sponge in the back of my throat; and I am not getting used to it. (Think of one of those cute little natural, sea sponges for applying face make up in days of old.) Sometime in this last month, my soft palate/pharanyx fell down. Thank goodness it doesn't seem to interfere with my airway either when I'm asleep or awake, but it takes a concerted effort to swallow food or even my own saliva. It feels like a big tissue blockage. I'm training my face not to "scroootcher up" when I swallow at work or with the general public.

I e-mailed Dr. KL yesterday (and he responded in a flash) to describe what was going on and asked for his creative thinking on whether anything could be done. He had already nixed a pillar procedure or pharyngoplasty. I wasn't surprised by his stance because I already knew how conservative he is when it comes to soft tissue removal, but I also didn't want to ignore my intra oral "downfall." I'm going to see him next week for an evaluation, and he's going to describe to me his version of a pharyngoplasty called a "pharyngeal tissue lift.” I'll be in touch again with you all right after that visit.

I had one more apneic event so that makes a total of four since June 13, 2007, when I was having about that number every night. I gave myself a giggle (maybe a little bit hysterically), as I woke up swimming my version of the Australian crawl in a sitting position. Do any of you MMA vets still get those big "gaspers?"

There has been minimal but steady progress when it comes to sensation returning. Because I get twinges and some pulsating, I assume things are still healing. Had a couple of major episodes of jaw popping on the right side, and that's totally new for me.

There is no buyer's remorse here. However, ApneaMom wasn't kidding when she mentioned that there might be a Joan Rivers joke to be told in terms of the falling throat. I'm also thinking Phyllis Diller. Have I dated myself?

Thanks for reading. You'll be hearing from me right after my appointment with Dr. KL next week. My best to you all.
