Lucinda !
Wow...It is great to hear from you, although I wish it were in different circumstances !
First, many congrats on your new pregnancy !!! You're a wonderful mom ! (It doesn't seem that your hubby finds you that unattractive :-) )!
Let us look around and stew abit on what your docs are proposing !
High turtlenecks and scarves can hide scars and trach sites...jewelry is out of my realm. I can't recall the last time I went to the Seattle opera, so the jewelry thing is a bit challenging for me.
Anesthetics CAN be done while pregnant. No one is crazy about them, of course. However, if the medical problem is dire and outweighs the risks of the procedure and anesthetics, it can be done (like in trauma, brain aneurysm procedures, etc...). OR...if the procedure is short (less than 30 minutes) , and other factors are good...then it can be considered "moderate" risk. The trach can be done under alot of local and "conscious sedation" to reduce awareness without alot of risk to your pregnancy. But, I can see how few people would extend themselves to offer a general anesthetic for an elective procedure beyond these limitations.
Can you get a trach under local until your baby is delivered and older ? Then look into the other epiglottis procedures ??
I'm so glad to hear from you (albeit under these circumstances) !!
