Lucinda,
I really believe that things are going to improve for you. I think that they are going to get to the bottom of your situation. You are dealing with so much. My heart goes out to you. You know, when you are in the depths of this thing, you can't see the way out, but trust me, things are going to get better. It is just a matter of time.
I would be most happy to get an email from you. I give my permission to Sandman to release my email address to you (I know that this would bend the rules, but it is worth a try).
Like Sandman, I too have read accounts of people who are happy with a trache. If memory serves me correctly, in the book titled "The Promise of Sleep", there is a reference to an individual who was a patient of Dr. Dement's. I seem to remember him as being a fellow doctor (I may be wrong about that). In any case, he was offered a chance for MMA but refused saying that he preferred the trache. He was happy with it.
MY THOUGHTS ABOUT TRACHES:
As for me, I really thought that I would most likely have to get a trache. I read a lot on the topic and corresponded with people who had traches. I asked them a lot of questions. I came to the conclusion that most of them were okay with the trache and had adapted to living with it. After speaking to them, I thought that I could enjoy a relativly normal life. My lifestyle would not be changed so much. On a daily basis I thought that everything would be much the same, except for some extra care in bathing and also concealing my neck. The other thing would be that I would have to change some of my hobbies. I would not be able to dive or swim in the ocean. I am a very avid scuba diver and enjoy travelling to various dive sites around the world (I base my decision for vacations on the diving). Scuba diving opened up a whole new world for me. I really got "hooked". It made me sad to think that I would lose that opportunity. After a while though, I realized that there would be many other activities that I could enjoy/discover. For example, what would stop me from going hiking in Nepal? One of my goals in life is to really "see the world". I think I could still do it.I look forward to reading your post. I would really like to hear your story. I also hope that you will find in us, a group of people who are with you and in your corner come hell or high water.
