So I'm now officially one year post op! Woo...Hoo....I made it!

I thought I would give a quick update as I noticed in Lerian's thread below there was some talk about returning feeling.

I just had a huge healing spurt about 3 weeks ago. My lower lip, and the inside of my gums, and cheek on the left hand side have been numb for quite awhile, as well as part of my chin, and the area below my lip on the left
side. Things started tingling like crazy, and for like 3 weeks things went from being super hot, then freezing, then numb, then annoyingly tingly, my lip would feel puffy, and swollen, then like it was coming off novacaine.
Well I could tell things were getting better but it was surprising how it returned.

Now I have a ton of feeling back! Like almost back to normal, but not (if that makes any sense.) Things settled down and while they are still a bit tingly (which is a good sign meaning there is still more feeling to return) things really feel pretty good now. My husband says that he can't believe the difference, that for months he says he has felt like he was kissing a mannequin because my lip
was so numb and I couldn't really control things very well. Now he says that things are much more back to normal. I also have noticed that the patchy spots
on my tongue that were numb have come back. At this point I have almost all my feeling back, and honestly believe that within the next few months I will come out of this with no residual numbness. I'm so happy as I was really
worried about that. One nice thing about all of this healing stuff is that prior to my MMA I had the palate expansion surgery. It took a full 15 months after that for all my feeling to return, but having gone through it I
know what it feels like when things are repairing now, so it's much easier to be patient through this recovery marathon as I know what to expect.

When I first came out of surgery I had full feeling in both lips, then over the next day or so it gradually got worse and went away. Apparently the swelling (on the inside) is still coming down, and everything is repairing
and regenerating now. Anyway....I just wanted to post so that some of you who are not quite as far along as I will know that there is still lots of healing going on, even if you don't see it or always feel it.

AS for everything else life is great! I'm sleeping amazingly well, and have not had any apnea events since my surgery. I feel rested, and my brain fog is gone. I can actually think clearly now and remember things. I have a
ton of energy, and best of all...the chronic sinus infections I was having seem to have gone away and I actually feel like I have my health back now. My immune system feels like it is back on track now so that is a huge bonus.

I will keep posting every month or so until things stop improving or I'm 100% again. Right now though, I can't say enough for my surgeon and how glad I am that I went through this whole marathon! It has truly been a
Godsend and I'm thrilled to have my life back again!

Wishing you all well!

Brandy
