I believe that I was taking Naxroxin and Dilaudid. (These drugs may have different names in USA.
If you search in google, using search terms like "pain killers, hypertension", you can see a lot of studies that confirm that some (not all) pain killers are known to increase blood pressure.
I had elevated blood pressure about one year before my surgery. Just prior to surgery it was normal. Immediately after surgery it shot through the roof. Now it is slighly elevated. I am not taking any anti-hypertension medicine presently.
In the past, I have taken Norvasc. That is the number one leading antihypertension medicine in the world. It is a calcium inhibitor. It works very well. I recommend it to you. It is in your best interest to take the medicine. You can always get off it when you calm down. The thing is that high blood pressure can cause damage to your organs (eyes, kidneys etc.).
There are many different kinds of drugs that lower hypertension in different ways. If one stops being effective, another will work. I recommend you see a good cardio doctor, take the meds, exercise and lose weight and try to relax.
I am glad that you have improved through the surgery.
