What an unfortunate experience!
I would strongly consider getting the jaw reset now rather than later. As you wait, your jaw bone could start regrowing in the wrong place. I believe the longer you wait, the longer the recuperation may be.
As others have stated, don't be in a rush to do UPPP. Every year that goes by it looks like more and more of an obsolete procedure for most people (instead of the procedure for everyone it was once considered).
Tongue reduction? Possibly, depending on your physiology. As Bill said, if you didn't have a GA, that would possibly have the same effect. Tongue reduction currently does not have high success rates.
Your only 6 months (!!!) out of surgery. Only half way done with recovery. Especially with the misalignment, you might be judging the MMA as a failure too early.
My recommendation on priority:
1. Get upper jaw properly aligned
2. Look into GA at the same time (if not done before)
3. Look into possible nasal surgery. OSA can be maddeningly multi-factorial (caused by multiple things)
4. Look into tongue reduction a year from now when you have fully healed and taken another sleep study AND had a surgeon recommend it
5. Consider UPPP only after exhausting these other avenues. And if so, consider a surgeon who does a modern modified procedure.
