Sorry to hear about your numbness. This is one of the most common side effects; I'm surprised your doctor didn't discuss it with you before the surgery.
My doctor told me it could take up to 18 months for the nerves to come back. It is rare for nerve regrowth to occur after 18 months, so if you are numb after 18 months it is probably going to stay that way. I had my surgery 5 months ago. My upper jaw is back to normal. A month ago I started getting sensation back in my chin; however, it's still tingly and partially numb. I am relatively young (31 years old) so keep in mind that younger people generally regrow their nerves faster than older people.
If you are disappointed with the surgical outcome, keep this in mind: going from an RDI of 40 to 10 is a big improvement in your apnea. Even if you don't feel better subjectively, you have probably reduced your risk of developing cardiopulmonary problems from the sleep apnea!
