I'm new tot his forum and wanted to share my experience of my surgery with everyone.

I had UPPP done about 3 years ago and I felt fine for about a month or 2 after surgery then I had to go back to using my CPAP. I was not impressed with the result and the pain I had to go thru. Last year I wanted to get some of my bottom teeth aligned so I went to see an orthodontist. As I was talking to him on what I wanted done, he notice on my patient form that I had put that I had Sleep Apnea. He wanted to know what I was doing for this and I told him that I was using CPAP but it was not working for me anymore. He then tells me about the clinic at the QEII in Nova Scotia (Canada) that deals with OSA. He got me an appointment with the surgeon and after a year of having my braces on, I went for surgery. The first 3-4 days where really hard. I had a hard time eating anything. I lost about 20lbs in the first week. I also had a hard time breathing because of my stuffed sinuses. The second week was better as I got use to sipping my Ensure drinks with a serynge. Third week was even better, no serynge and a little less pain. During the fourth week I was having a lot of spasm on my left side of my face, it was very painful and always occured at night time, so no sleep. At the begining of the fith week, I got my elastics removed. What a relief!!! I could actually brush the back of my teeth and my tongue. At this point I had lost 30lbs. At the begining of the 6th week I had notice that the opening of my mouth was not improving. The surgeon told me to give it time and keep doing the mouth excercises. After a couple of days things started to open up more. I can now open my mouth for a little more then 3 inches. I'm going to see the surgeon on June 23rd. This will be 8 weeks after the surgery. I hope he's happy with the progress.

I'm sleeping better but still have the restless leg syndrom. My wife tells me that it looks like I'm playing soccer in my sleep.

I glad that I got it done because I can now see a big difference in my energy and I'm not feeling tired in the afternoon.

As for the facial change, It's not too bad. People at work tell me that I look different but I think it's because I lost so much weight. I've gained another 5 lbs since I started eating solid food. Hopefully I can keep the rest off.

The pain for me wasn't too bad after the first couple of weeks. I was able to go without the pain medication for a good period of time. It's only during the muscle spasm that I really had to use it.

Sorry for going on and on but I just wanted to share my experience with everyone. I wish I would of known about this site before my surgery, it would've prepared me better. Thanks to everyone that shared their experience.
