I had a very short and unsuccessful course with cPap. When I first inquired about surgery, not knowing a thing, the ENT told me that he would not even consider any surgery until I showed a more dedicated effort with cPap. I think I now come from the school which suggests that it is not a moral frailty to say "no" to cPap whenever an individual is ready to acknowledge that it doesn't work. Even concluding the following--I hate it, I can't stand it, I feel as if I'm blowing up with air, etc--should not be construed as noncompliance. I say this, not because I believe we should leap to surgery as a first response, but because I know that some doctor's are not hearing the patient's plight. It can be debilitating to try and adapt to a device which hinders and/or interrupts sleep even more than the sleep apnea does. Whew, I'd better get off this soap box.
I would encourage you to head right over to one of the sleep specialist surgeons and tell your story. Please stay in touch.
