Well:
We have all been there. I think you need to try the CPAP for a while and then go back to your doctor to tell him or her that it is not working for you. He needs to document that before referring you to a surgeon.
If you are not overwieght and the obstruction is at the base of your tongue (which was my case)
UUUP will probably not impove you sleep apnea.
In my case it made my apnea worse.
MMA fixed my sleep apnea but it came at a price.
