You all have been VERY helpful- thank you so much. I have all the concerns that it sounds like everyone had- I had no idea MMA existed until a few weeks when a member of a website I run for active military and vets told me about it- he also works for a sleep disorder group.I was in the Army reserves when back in the 90s and in ROTC in colege and very athletic but even then sleep was always the issue. I never slept much, would wake up after accidentally biting my tongue or stop breathing, and then every 3 weeks or so I would crash on a weekend and sleep for like 15 or 16 hours.
I ended up experiencing depression at one point in school and took a year off --- and now I honestly think it was due to Sleep Apnea. I was in the best shape of my life as for ROTC we participated in something called "Ranger Challenge" against other schools around the U.S. Basically an adventure race-- but we ran some 20 to 30 miles a week and worked out plenty. So I have had apnea skinny and in shape as well with my beer gut- but I do need to lose the 20 lbs. haha.
This site is amazing and a Godsend- seriously. I am relocating for San Francisco back to Chicago and am going to get checked out all over again-
and on that note, do you all have advice on sleep studies? I wasn't especially thrilled a few years ago when I had one done and the girl monitoring me had to "run to 7-11 to get some snacks" before wiring me up. I wasn't very confident of her skills..... but that is another story.
I am going to follow everyone's stories closely-- this is really fascinating. I thought I was doomed. After every procedure I had done I would think "This has got to be it, finally." Not so-- as everyone here can agree with.
Thanks again all, and I'll be here lurking fairly often and reading everyone's stories!
