Stanford MMA'ers. Insurance???

Hello all. I finally got to go see Dr. KL in early June. I will be going forward with the MMA in an attempt to cure/significantly improve my Apnea. Currently at an AHI of 95+ and O2 desaturation waaaaaay down there. I'll post again about that soon.

But here's my issue. I took a permanent position in January this year to obtain health insurance. Originally I was set up on an HMO. On 1 June I switched to the PPO (same plan, same employer).

Here's the kick in the teeth:

I haven't been treated for this in the last 6 years. Except for the sleep study and a couple of office visits THIS year under the HMO. When I switched to the PPO, they now claim this is pre-existing. Solely because I rec'd treatment in the last 6 mos (under the HMO). Same employer, same policy... They're now denying claims until mid 2009 (waiting period).

First, this doesn't seem right much less fair. My company tried (poorly) to fight on my behalf. But still I got nowhere fast. To say that depressed me and made me feel hopeless is a gross understatement. I'm barely functional. I mean barely...

Sorry, back to my point and question.

I'm going to apply again for private insurance. Thinking I'll have more luck now that I've had creditable coverage for these 7 months or so.

Even if they give me a waiting period, I'm no worse off.

As a perm employee I'm making less than 1/2 of what I do as a consultant. And I'm now facing foreclosure and am so behind financially since I took this job for the worthless insurance (thanks BCBS). I have a new son and I need to support my family, have a place to live and afford the downtime during recovery (and my share of the surgery costs).

Question:

Other than Blue Cross Double Cross, what other insurance carriers have y'all had good luck with in terms of the Stanford MMA??

As I mentioned, I'll be applying for private insurance. But I want to ensure I pick a good carrier that will serve me well during the MMA.

I was thinking

* Aetna
* United HealthCare
* Humana
* and lastly BCBS

Any of you with any insight would be greatly appreciated. I'm very sorry to rant like this and get off topic. But I felt I needed to give you the whole story for some reason.

Thanks for listening and thank you in advance.

Michael
