Yes, surgeons may be 'projecting' their own beliefs a bit, and downplaying something they believe will be of little consequence.

If my surgeon had said "you will probably end up with some areas of numbness that will never fully recover" - I might have assigned too much importance to that and might have reconsidered.

And yes - I hope to go to the Bay area. I will be back from Africa for less than two weeks so it's a little tricky.
