I have another suggestion for you based on what I've learned from seeing my physical therapist who has a specific experience in treating orofacial pain.

He has me heat a gel pack in the microwave for about a minute so that it is hot, but won't burn-- if it's too hot, wrap it in a thin towel. Place the gel pack on the sore spot (your lip)for about 5-10 seconds. Immediately rub an ice cube over the area for about 5-10 seconds. If you hold it in a towel it won't slip out of your hand. Dry off the spot with the towel and lightly move your fingers over the area. Repeat with the heated gel pack for another 5-10 seconds, then ice for 5-10 seconds, dry off the spot and again move your fingers over the area. Having a rapid change in temperature seems to interrupt the pain signals to the brain. If the extreme temperature change is too uncomfortable, you can just try heat or ice alone whichever feels better to you.

He also says that whenever you are treating facial pain you need to treat your neck and shoulders, too-- as everything is related. Try the same technique on the side of your face going up towards your temples, on the back of your neck, and down towards your shoulders.

Something worth trying... for a variety of aches and pains!
