Hi, Learian!
Well, I kinda fell of the face of the earth for a little while. I was still here, but I ran into a little rough spot for a while. I had quit posting on my blog, too. I belived that my apnea was still there, but it seems like I was wrong. I was having waking episodes and they felt a lot like apneas, but I've come to believe that they were caused by difficulty swallowing. With everything pulled tight and having to stay banded shut at night, I think that the struggle to swallow was having the same effect as an apnea. Couple that with some anxiety and life was pretty miserable for a while. I finally put an update on the blog to get caught up. I hope to keep up with it now.
I am much better than I was the last time I posted here. I haven't used CPAP other than for a couple of hours those two nights when I was getting desperate. I have stopped the sleep drugs and am trying to get my sleep cycle back on track. I still have a lot of numbness on my chin, but it's starting to come back. There are other areas of numbness, but they seem to come and go while getting slowly better. I'm starting to feel more and more like the surgery was a success, but that in my case, the results weren't as immediate as with some. I still have a lingering issue (or non-issue depending on healing) of the right side of my mandible where the bone broke wrong. It feels pretty good and what little the xray can show at this point is promising. My outlook has improved tremedously since my last posts and I am pretty close to feeling normal again. I can't say enough about the Mayo Clinic and especially Dr. V. and his nurse. They have never been anything other than honest and supportive and never made me feel like they had someplace else to be.
Well, I hope to start keeping my blog up a little better as well as checking in up here. It was nice to actually have someone ask about me, so thank you for that!
