One of the things that really made me think that I was having apnea events was the sweating. I have awaken several times in a heavy sweat and it reminds me of the good ol' days. WesternJoe, It's interesting what you are saying about your sleep starts. In the past, I was pretty immune to caffeine's effects, but I wonder if that has changed. I did have a period of about two weeks where things seemed to improve, but then they turned around. So, I had increasing sleep deprivation, still consuming caffeine (usually two cups of coffee in the morning and maybe one soda, but nothing after 1pm), and the sudden stop of the temazapam. Seems like there are a lot of things stacked up against me as far as getting a good night's sleep.
Emotionally, if I get proof at some point that the apnea is 'cured', I can better deal with the insomnia. I know insomnia is a serious issue for some people, and it could turn into a serious issue for me, but at this point, I'll take it over any more OSA. I figure I will be better equipped mentally to handle sleep issues if I know that they aren't OSA related.

I think I'll try quitting the caffeine for a while and work on getting the drugs stopped. I know that I too seemed to improve when I exercised more regularly. My wife pointed that out to me as a possibility, too. It's nice to have something to try. The worst feeling is having a problem that you can't do anything about.
