I too am at the 1yr mark. I don’t currently have the pain you described, but I did earlier in the healing timeline. Shortly after surgery, I had similar problems (moving the tongue was around was painful especially in 1 direction, sharp pain in the left jaw-TMJ area, and a tender spot about where you noted). This started right after surgery and it continued for several months after that. My surgeon said it was musculature. At about the 2.5-3 mo-post MMA, I started a combination of rest, warm compresses, and some massage therapy of the TMJ/jaw/neck. Also, a suggestion that I found on westernjoe’s blog about eating on both sides was helpful. The muscles started to loosen up and some of the scar tissue that built up in the jaw was breaking down. The TMJ pain lessened and eventually went away and it now just “crunches” a little. Sometimes, it still gets a little sore when my jaw muscles are tight (I think I grind my teeth). I still massage the jaw from time to time and the “crunching” seems to go away.

When the jaw muscles started to loosen, the tender spot also went away. I also stopped sticking out my tongue to see if it still hurt!

I don’t know if the tongue and the TMJ pain are connected, but I hope the above helps.
